Vodafone’s Femtocell boosts cellphone signals at home
Bharat | Jun 25 2009

Recently launched by Vodafone, the Femtocell is a device which plugs into main power and the Ethernet connection on the router, to boost the signal receptions of the network hungry cellphones at home. Routing signals via a broadband connection, the device uses 3G network-based phones to work with in order to solve the routine at homes that often suffer with poor mobile phone signals. Branded with Access Gateway as its name, the Femtocell that can be purchased for £160 ($265) or £5 rental per month, can route up to four cellphones simultaneously, good enough for a family.

If you wish to buy this, make sure you have registered the numbers of the cellphones you wish to use with the service, so that no neighbor infringes into the bandwidth. If you aren’t a busy man, maybe you can let the device go, because a trip from one room to another searching for signal will definitely save you from being a couch potato. Though Vodafone claims there isn’t any effect of the device and its associated services on the internet speeds et al, but to be sure of it – you just never know.
