Stable whole-body motion lets robots dance with the hips

Dancing isn’t a new trait for modern robots, yet mimicking all those grooves that the human body can manage isn’t all that easy for the mechanical-human wannabes. Now, researchers in South Korea have developed a methodology to generate stable body motions for humanoid robots, and for this the researchers have used data captured from the movements of human dancers, and focusing on the hip movements have managed respectable results. The hip is the prime focus here because that’s what keeps the human stably-groovy amid all those dynamic movements during a dance, and you can see that in the humanoid robot that’s more life-like dancer than the other bots we have seen over time.
