Courtesy the Lightwriter SL40, a new hi-tech text-to-speech synthesizer, an Afghan victim who lost the ability to talk, can speak again.
I totally freak out when I hear or read of a technology actually assisting where it is most dearly needed. Ben Parkinson, 25 was living out with prosthetic legs and operated spine, post he lost both his legs, paralyzed his left arm and suffered 37 other injuries in mine blast in Afghanistan. The injuries had left the Lance Bombardier’s brain damaged because of which he had also lost the ability to speak. But now, with help of a Lightwriter SL40 by Toby Churchill and the predictive speech software, Ben can talk again, more efficiently than he could with the Lightwriter’s previous version.
For more on Ben’s life, and to see a video demonstration of how the Lightwriter has transformed Ben’s life chick here.
