Sky has stretched the 3D dimension into an athlete’s realm. Using 3D and HD enabled cameras the team has captured Usain Bolt, the fastest man on earth, in the fastest 150 meter lap (on a specially designed track). Caught on HD and 3D both, Usain has been tracked from stride-for-stride in the entire length of the track for good 14.35 seconds, the time Usain took to complete the race.
Sky’s Head of Product Design and Innovation, Brian Lenz, citing the event states:
It’s great for Sky to be involved in capturing another compelling piece of content in 3D, to add to the catalogue of events we’ve recorded so far – from Ricky Hatton’s Manchester Homecoming fight last May to a live 3D broadcast of Keane last month, and even the UK’s first 3D ballet.
Sky is doing a great job by capturing various events in 3D in order to assess the actual ability 3D can muster. We have a long way to go still to recognize the ultimate potentials of 3D, but for now to enjoy it, we have an opportunity to view Bolt speeding in 3D at Odeon cinemas later in the year.
