MIT’s AIDA robot lets the driver know how he is driving
Bharat | Oct 30 2009

I for one wouldn’t want to hear any comments on how I am driving, but there are many who have their pillion-riders to facilitate, commenting and suggesting ways to drive well. Those fellows have a hard time driving alone on a long journey. With MIT’s latest Affective Intelligent Driving Agent (AIDA), they could have a robotic assistant sitting on the car’s dash commenting on how you drive.

Heck! Do I want a robot telling me how I drive, an outright no. But if MIT’s got the AIDA into life, there has to be an object real here and why not, AIDA can be a good companion when no one’s there. What AIDA does is it communicates with the driver through a small robot embedded in the dashboard of the car. The robot is designed to react to the driver’s mood and emotions, taking cues where him to help him navigate better.

AIDA belongs to the category of those intelligent robots, therefore, in order to be more specific in helping the driver, the bot keeps track of the car, its maneuverability on common routes and destination, thus imbibing real-time information and knowledge of environmental conditions and driver’s behavior.

Over a period of time, AIDA can get well versed with the environ and can therefore direct the driver to home and work or other places of frequent visit, along with tipping the driver on when it’s time for a refuel, or how he has been driving at the given moment.
