Ian Thorpe the latest drug suspect
Bharat | Mar 31 2007

Ian Thorpe though needs no introduction but for the ignorant, he is a swimming legend who hailed from Australia.

The latest disclosure by a French newspaper L’Equipe could blot his entire career - the newspaper in its exclusive report claims of Ian Thorpe testing positive for abnormally high levels of testosterone and luteinizing hormone in 2006.

According to L’Equipe, the Australian Sport Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) knew of the positive findings but opted to close Thorpe’s case on the grounds of lack of substantial evidence.

The international swimming body (FINA) has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, for a fresh investigation into the tests of the 24-year-old Thorpe, who retired in November last year post winning 5 Olympic golds, 11 world championships and setting 23 World records.

Testosterone levels or TE ratio as they call it, can be on the higher side in any male, and could account for a positive finding - but a concrete finding is much more that just testing positive.
