Have the women in the sporting world found an easy way to stardom - not sports though, its media... First the tennis sensation turned model Anna Kournikova who became a television host and now to add to the flock is the - former or present - undecided, but surely the two-time world champion figure skater Irina Slutskaya.
For those who may have thought Slutskaya had retired from competitive skating, its time for all you guys to hold on that farewell bash. Slutskaya has dismissed a report from Russia that had buzzed of her retirement. She is practicing in Philadelphia for ‘Gretchen Wilson’s Country on Ice” show, from where she said,
“No, I’m not finished, if I said I’m retiring, I forgot to tell my coach.”
Slutskaya hasn’t skated in any major competitions since winning the bronze medal at the Turin Olympics, but has been on the ice skating in the “Champions on Ice,” and touring Russia. Though she has ruled herself out of the Grand Prix series this season, but firmly believes she will be back competing in the Russian Nationals in January.
After winning the silver medal at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, she has frequently missed competitions due heart ailment that doctors said might end her career - but she has struggled like a champ and refuses to quit... If health’s a factor it wouldn’t be a bad choice to embrace the small screen.
