FeLiCa hi-tech payment terminal robot presented at iEXPO '08
Bharat | Nov 14 2008

How many times have you seen robot mannequins? Often we guess, and here is another dummy seen at iEXPO 2008. FeLiCa from NEC is a life-size robot designed for as a payment terminal. The American market is facing consequences of e-money, and the influence is seen around the globe, but the Japanese seem to have a different take, with e-money gaining popularity, a fact evident with bot FeLiCa RFID readers revealed to facilitate citizens with their e-money applications.

What’s innovative:

FeLiCa is a bot dummy with a difference; it has a touchscreen mounted on the chest, a camera in the hood for face recognition and extended arms, where you place your cellphone, and the built-in reader in the left arm reads your bank account. FeLiCa cannot move about, therefore, the prototype can only be placed at one location, perhaps an undermining facet for the NEC creation. Watch this:

The robot can transfer electronic coupons and other similar data to the user’s phone. And also, for the freaks who have liked the attributes, the bot shall be available with the existing technology features at short notice. We guess FeLiCa is out from underneath the ground in Japan, and NEC is hoped to be working on some added features for their design – maybe adding maneuverability could be one?
