To find an UMPC with high prospects to make inroads into the markets flooded with all sorts of notebooks, netbooks and smartphones seems a tough task of late. But this recently unveiled Archos 9 PC Tablet, featuring an 8.9-inch VGA touchscreen display with 1024 x 600 resolutions and an Intel Atom Z515 1.2GHz processor, is a worthy prospect. Measuring at about 256 x 134 x 16mm, the UMPC weighs less than 800g, embeds a 1.3-megapixel webcam and houses an 80GB hard drive. For connectivity the Archos 9 PC Tablet supports Wi-Fi and an optional 3.5G HSPA WWAN and a digital TV tuner. To be made available for a price tag of about $705, the UMPC is expected to ship in the fall 2009.
