Apple ‘Rocks’ thus ‘Rolls’ new iPod surprises
Bharat | Sep 10 2009

Come eagerly awaited Apple’s “It’s Only Rock and Roll” Event and surprises loomed in faster than the thoughts we had in minds, all the while waiting for the curtains to be unveiled from over the hidings.

First to catch me half dozing was the video camera induction to the good old iPod Nano. And what threw me out of the bed was that the iPod Touch gets no camera, good lord, I was waiting for it more anxiously, I tell you. Only thing that’s got me writing this for now is the price cuts that Apple has announced for all the upgrades they have made. Something for a breather at least.

The video camera on the iPod Nano shoots at 640×480 at up to 30 frames per second, which may be an add-on camera for capturing on the go movies but we couldn’t consider it a Flip camcorder replacement just considering that comparatively low image resolution. The 5G Nano along with the camera also gets a 2.2-inch screen, better speaker and FM Tuner that comes complete with iTunes tagging and Nike support to track calories.

iPod Touch may have disappointed by not getting a camera, but the 3rd gen music player has been stuffed with handsomely high 64 GB’s of flash memory and costing just $399 may be accessible to all customers. The device has been made faster, that means the processing is good for gaming, and Apple hasn’t hesitated in labeling the iPod Touch as a ‘great game machine.’

The iPod shuffle and boy haven’t we loved them for what they were, now we may just love them more in the great stainless steel finish ($99) or in better colors and lesser price. The iPod Classics, we haven’t forgotten them and so hasn’t Apple too, thus they have upgraded the Classic to 160GB, did you get that, for $249, most of us may just be lured into buying it.
