AMD delivers industry’s cheapest quad-core processor
Bharat | Sep 16 2009

We’ve always considered 45nm architecture synonymous with the word expensive. When a swanky thing like that finds no common takers, then a revision in thought becomes must.

Taking the reversal on itself, AMD has introduced new quad-core processors with the latest 45nm process. The Athlon II x4 620 is, as AMD touts, the first quad-core processor integrated with 45nm technology and Windows 7 optimization to ship under the $100 price tag. Now, I see takers lined up.

The Athlon II x4 processors are stuffed with AMD’s 785G chipset, feature ATI stream technology to improvise on the HD video conversion. The processors are also integrated with ATI Radeon HD 4200 Graphics thus enhancing the entire desktop platform, designed for the mainstream consumers, to facilitate accelerated 3D performance.

There is no announce date yet. Therefore the wait could be a little long.
